At Belle Vue Dental Practice, we'll explain every stage clearly and provide careful, reassuring treatment focused on relieving discomfort and preserving your dental health.

Belle Vue Dental Practice, South Benfleet, Essex SS7 1NA. Family, cosmetic and Invisalign dentistry since 1988.

What Is Root Canal Therapy?

Root canal therapy is a treatment used when the soft tissue inside a tooth, known as the dental pulp, becomes inflamed or infected. This can happen as a result of deep decay, cracks or damage to the tooth or sometimes following previous dental treatment.

During treatment, the infected or inflamed tissue is carefully removed from inside the tooth. The root canals are then cleaned, disinfected and sealed to help prevent further infection.

Root canal therapy can often allow a tooth that might otherwise need to be removed to remain in place, helping preserve your natural smile and function.

Is Root Canal Therapy Right for Me?

Root canal therapy may be recommended when the inside of a tooth has become inflamed or infected. Symptoms can vary considerably, and in some cases a problem may be identified during a routine examination or X-ray before significant discomfort develops.

IT MAY BE A GOOD OPTION IF YOU:

Have persistent toothache or discomfort when biting

Experience prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold

Have swelling, tenderness or signs of infection around a tooth

Have a damaged or deeply decayed tooth that may otherwise need removing

We'll carefully assess the tooth and, where appropriate, take an X-ray to help determine the cause of the problem. We'll explain what we've found, discuss the treatment options available and help you understand the most appropriate way forward.
