Extractions
Gentle, reassuring care when a tooth needs to be removed
Sometimes removing a tooth is the most appropriate way to relieve discomfort, treat a dental problem or protect your wider oral health. At Belle Vue Dental Practice, we'll carefully assess your tooth, explain your options clearly and make your comfort and wellbeing a priority throughout your treatment.

What Is a Dental Extraction?
A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket. Although preserving your natural teeth is always important, there are situations where a tooth is too damaged or compromised to be predictably restored, or where removing it is the most appropriate option for your dental health.
A tooth may need to be removed because of extensive decay, significant damage, infection or problems affecting the surrounding tissues. Every situation is different, so we'll carefully assess the tooth before discussing the options available to you.
If an extraction is recommended, we'll explain why, talk you through what to expect and provide clear advice on looking after the area afterwards.
Is Dental Extraction Right for Me?
The decision to remove a tooth is made after carefully considering its condition, your symptoms and the treatment options available. We'll clearly explain the reasons for any recommendation and give you the opportunity to ask questions before deciding how you'd like to proceed.
IT MAY BE A GOOD OPTION IF YOU:
Have a severely decayed or damaged tooth that cannot be predictably restored
Have a tooth affected by infection or another problem that cannot be resolved with restorative treatment
Have a loose or compromised tooth affected by advanced gum disease
Have been advised that removing a tooth would benefit your wider dental health
We'll carefully examine the area and may take an X-ray to help us assess the tooth and surrounding structures. We'll then explain our findings and discuss the most appropriate way forward with you.
