What is Botox®?

Botulinum toxin is a purified bacterial substance that blocks muscle nerve signals and is available as  Botox® and Vistabel® which are identical chemically but packaged differently. Injecting small quantities temporarily relaxes the muscles preventing the formation of new wrinkles and softening any existing lines.

The Botox®/Vistabel® anti-wrinkle treatment can smooth out age-related wrinkles such as crows feet, frown lines or lines on the forehead.   
             
Treatment

The muscle relaxant is injected directly into the muscle that is producing the wrinkle. A process that generally takes between 15 and 30 minutes.

Aftercare
 
Once you have had the treatment you can return to your normal activities but should avoid bending for about four hours.

Results

The full effects of treatment develop slowly over about 2 weeks Results may vary and occasionally a second dose is needed at this stage to gain the desired effect. The benefits usually last from 3 to 4 months.
 
To retain the desired effect further treatments are needed, usually three or four in the first year but, as the change becomes more permanent, booster injections may only be needed twice in the second year.
